The Wi-Fi worked, and there was plenty of parking, so it wasn't all bad. But the room was filthy and in poor shape. It smelled of cigarettes and mildew, the comforter and curtains had cigarette burns, and there were brown stains on the curtains. The shower felt slimy and sticky, and fruit flies were coming out of the sink. Dirt was scattered across the floor, making me think it hadn't been cleaned or swept in a long time. The air conditioner couldn't keep the room cool, and many of its buttons seemed broken. The TV remote didn't work, and there was no mini-fridge even though one was listed with the booking. The hotel had also promised free breakfast when I booked, but there wasn't any.
We booked a budget-friendly room because we had an early flight from a nearby airport, and the accommodations were a pleasant surprise. The room was quite nice and seemed recently upgraded, and the beds were comfortable. I met the new owner, who said he'd recently acquired the hotel and was in the process of updating all the rooms. For the price, I was really impressed with what we got.
For a cheap place to sleep, it isn't bad, though it's nothing special. The outside looks run down, while the inside is okay. The floors need a better cleaning, but the rooms weren't nasty, and the beds were clean. I never saw a bug, and they have mattress covers to prevent them. The owner is nice, even if he seems rude at first. I think he just deals with a lot of idiots. You'll need a $50 deposit, which you get back. Check that the AC works. If it doesn't, they'll move you. I wouldn't stay here with kids.
The building looks abandoned outside, and inside it was terrible, with dirt and mold and cigarette smells. Only a few rooms seemed to be in use, while the rest of the huge building was empty. I don't understand how this can still be called a Baymont by Wyndham. The accessible room we reserved wasn't available, and the amount charged online was exorbitant for what we got. We stayed at a different Baymont.
The front desk man and his wife were nice enough, and the room felt clean enough, but the hotel's upkeep was poor. I waited quite a while in the lobby for help. When I asked about continental breakfast, the man said the health department had shut it down after a report that someone coughed and might have had covid. I wasn't convinced. Outside, rust was coming through the paint on the stairwells, and some of the beams between the first and second floors had large cracks and were starting to separate. There was more rust on the metal by the exterior stairs. My key card worked, but I had to shoulder the door to get it open. The room looked okay at first. Then I noticed there was no chair at the desk, soft spots all over the floor under the new flooring, and a large gash across the middle of the TV screen. The fridge had a big dent with metal pulled away from its body. The shower had very little hot water and a lot of cold, so the temperature was hard to mix safely. The knob for turning on the shower was missing, and I had to use my pocket knife to turn it. The shower curtain had stains that looked like red lipstick. I bought four nights, but I probably wouldn't stay here again.
