Trade Winds Central Inn

The Trade Winds may have been a nice place once, but most of it is in rough shape now. There are people experiencing homelessness around the property at all hours, and I heard someone had recently been murdered there. You can still request one of the larger, nicer indoor rooms on an upper floor overlooking the pool, though those cost more. I’m not sure it’s worth it. Be careful.

I needed medical care at home after a severe reaction to what I believe were bedbug bites from this room. The bugs were tiny and hard to spot, but I was covered in bites across my face, arms, and chest. The room itself was awful: roaches, cracked walls and ceilings, cigarette burns, stained sheets and pillowcases, damaged lamps, shredded curtains, and broken security locks. The TV was outdated and there weren’t enough linens. I’ve stayed in hotels all over the world, and this was by far my worst room. I don’t understand how it’s still open or advertised on Expedia and other travel sites. It needs to be shut down. Any excellent reviews are fraudulent. Please report it to the health department and BBB.

I booked this room the night before my daughter’s surgery. When we woke up, we both had bite marks, and I saw a bedbug on the bathroom wall in room 296. I recorded it, and the video also shows the hotel’s location. The owner wouldn’t refund me until her own pest control person came to check. She argued that it was a roach, saying her housekeeper had told her so, although the housekeeper hadn’t even seen my photo or video. The owner seemed polished and somewhat nice, but denied what was right there on the video. She said she had to protect her business because a bedbug report would cost her money. I’m angry and disappointed by how she handled it, and by the lack of basic courtesy or concern for customers. It was cheap and inconvenient, but that experience and the way I was treated weren’t worth it. I’ll never stay or recommend this place. Honestly, it looks like it should be shut down.

There were at least 10 bullet holes in the ceiling of the upgraded room. Its swing bar lock had also been taken apart, and the room smelled awful. The carpet and furniture were stained and broken, and the bathroom vanity was covered in burns. When we first walked to our room, we passed several open doors with people writhing on the beds. Our bed was broken and the curtains were shredded, so we went straight back to the desk. The clerk said, “yeah people live here,” then moved us to the upgrade. Horrifying. I can put up with a cheap, shabby motel, but this was on another level.
