Prince Hotel

The rooms were dirty, service was very slow, and the lobby was 35°. They also couldn't find our reservation. Spend a few extra dollars and go to one of the larger local hotels. Don't stay here.

The hotel looked abandoned when my husband and I arrived. The bar was shut down, nobody was around, and the reception desk was empty. I had to call two numbers before anyone came. The clerk kept saying he had just one room for one person and told us to go see it. Even though it looked online like more rooms were vacant, he didn't offer an upgrade. The whole thing felt sketchy and unsafe. We had booked through Expedia, and the room advertised there was supposed to be for two people. Since I'd prepaid, I asked for a refund. The clerk said, “I am not going to charge you,” then turned and ran inside an elevator while my husband and I were still talking to him. I had to cancel the charge through Expedia. It was the weirdest and rudest experience of my life. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone, especially solo female travellers. I wish I'd read the other reviews before booking.

The room was dirty, with paint on the surfaces and polyfiller in the walls. The spy hole in the door had no lens, so someone outside could see into the room, and the bathroom door had no handle or lock, just a large hole where they should have been. The bed and pillows were stained. We mostly slept dressed after finding one pillow that wasn't grotty. When we arrived, the place seemed to still be under renovation, and there was a damp smell during check-in. The keycard came with a warning that the room was small and we should check it before paying. The floor was carpeted over what seemed like lumpy concrete, and the walls were grimy. The room was small, dusty, and generally unpleasant. We weren't sure about staying, but since it was only 9pm to 8am, we thought, what the hell. The person at the desk, standing in front of a dirty, stained mirror with the hotel name on it, said he'd upgraded us to a better room, so we went along with it because we needed sleep. We didn't try the food or drink, and at $3 for a Coke from the machine, we passed on that too. Not a nice experience at all.

The room and sheets were clean, the price was very low, and the staff member I dealt with was polite and accommodating. He was an Indian gentleman at the front desk, and he offered to show me the room before I checked in. Almost nobody does that anymore, and I appreciated it. I'm on the road for work most of the year and have stayed in much worse hotels, especially in Tunkhannock. I'd rather stay here. This probably won't suit the average traveler. The owners work hard on the business, and the place is under constant renovation. Some cosmetic issues are being handled between guest stays, and there are minor hassles like lights that don't work and no full-size towels in the rooms. None of that bothers me much. Once the repairs are finished, this could be a really nice five-star hotel.
