Duy at the front desk was such a great guy. He was friendly and welcoming, made check-in easy, and went further than most receptionists do. The rooms are clean and nice, with a little kitchenette and everything we needed to cook a meal. There's also a small shop inside, and you can charge things to your room. The customer service was great all around. This could become my regular place when I'm in town.

It was about 2:30 in the morning when we had to stop partway through our drive. We'd tried to get as far as the Holiday Inn in Chowchilla, but they said they couldn't check us in after 2 a.m., even though their app said overnight check-ins were okay between midnight and 5. Before booking here, we called ahead, and the woman I spoke with was incredibly sweet and helped us find a nice, convenient room for us and our doggos. Checkout was smooth too, and the front desk staff were so kind.

The hotel is clean and well maintained, and the location is convenient. The concern is just outside the property: homeless people are living in tents on the other side of the fence, close to the hotel. There's garbage scattered along the fence, which looks messy and leaves people uneasy about their cars in the parking lot. It would be good if the area businesses could do something about it. The hotel is also right behind the Black Bear Diner.

At check-in, they took my card details for the file and put a $25 hold on it. They told me I'd get that back at checkout, but it never came through. In the morning, the front desk didn't even know what I meant. Be careful here.

I stayed for four days and had a good time. I tried a few other hotels nearby but wasn't happy with what they offered for the price. The value here at candlewood was good.
