Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Turlock

The train is the big problem here. It's so close that it woke me three or four times each night, and there's no avoiding it. I stayed in a renovated third-floor room in early December 2024. It was nice but basic and smaller than I expected. They were renovating the lobby too, with plastic sheeting up and noise during the day. Being right off the freeway is convenient. The free breakfast is pretty basic, just an egg dish, meat, a waffle, plus some yogurt and toast. The staff were nice, though they seemed to be on the computer most of the time.

We've stayed at this location for years and usually had good experiences with friendly, attentive staff. This visit was very different. The front office staff weren't friendly, and there was no hair conditioner in the bathroom. When we called for a refill and fresh towels, the woman snapped that she was the only person up front and couldn't help us then. We had to find housekeeping ourselves to get clean towels. Then the fire alarm kept going off around 1 a.m. We called the front office over and over without an answer. When I went downstairs, the woman was rude and unapologetic, saying only that it was a half alarm. It kept happening through most of the night and into the morning. We had a terrible night, and management didn't even mention it or apologize for the inconvenience.

We booked four days for a family reunion, and things were fine until midnight Saturday, when a sports team started running noisily up and down the hall and knocking on doors. I opened our door and saw several adults standing there, so I assumed they had things under control. After 45 minutes, I called the front desk and was told, “We’ll get it squared away.” The next day I spoke with Armando Gonzalez, the front office manager. He didn't look up from his computer and said, “We can’t do anything if parents can’t control their kids.” It felt like we were just expected to put up with it. I asked him to review the cameras for 05/24/2025, and hope other guests don't have the same problem.

The staff were so nice, and Victoria made our check-in easy and pleasant. We asked for a wheelchair-accessible room because my friend is disabled, and it was probably the best room she's stayed in. It's hard to find a good hotel for people with disabilities, so this was great. The location is ideal, with lots of places within walking distance, including In n Out Burger, Sizzlers, Target, TJMaxx, a gas station, and more. We didn't have a car, so I like having nearby options like that. The hotel is quiet, and the breakfast was generous and didn't disappoint: eggs, bacon or sausage, bagels, toast, muffins, cereal, and oatmeal. We'll definitely stay here again when I come back to visit my friend.
