The breakfast-area attendant was lovely and always pleasant. She deserves all the credit for making that part of the stay better. The continental breakfast itself was sparse, with little variety and hardly anything for someone avoiding dairy. There was oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, assorted bread, juice, sometimes boiled eggs, and a limited amount of fruit. Getting to the Grand Canyon was easy, less than ten minutes to the entrance, and the indoor pool was spacious and reasonably clean. Our room was roomy too, but housekeeping was terrible. We asked for service each day, yet the sheets weren’t changed, toilet paper wasn’t replenished, large patches of floor weren’t vacuumed, the bathroom wasn’t cleaned, and we didn’t get fresh washcloths. The stay was decent, with clear room for improvement. The town is expensive, so buy snacks and essentials before you arrive.

The cloudy pool water was concerning because we couldn’t see the bottom. We’d paid more than nearby cheaper options expecting better, but the stay didn’t match the price, and I hope management follows up and addresses what happened. Our room was on the first floor near the lobby, where kids ran and yelled until about 10 PM, then the noise started again around 6 AM. The walls seemed very thin. We could hear conversations and parents saying “shh” through two walls, and we slept poorly. Check-in was frustrating too. We showed up with our confirmation email and were sent to the hotel next door. They immediately sent us back because the reservation was clearly for this property. The staff could have simply looked it up instead of sending us back and forth.

We saw a group of five or six elk stroll down the road each morning to graze beside the hotel. That was neat, and we’d return. The location worked perfectly for the South Rim: the visitor center and Mathers Point inside GCNP were about a 15-minute drive for sunrise and sunset. Our bed was comfortable, the room clean, and the free continental breakfast had plenty of food, though it was crowded every morning. The registration staff and other employees were friendly and helpful. We also got a restaurant discount across the street at the Grand Hotel, an easy walk for dinner. Our suite was in a separate building with a coffee and breakfast setup that was closed, which was inconvenient and seemed wasteful when the hotel looked full. Housekeeping also doesn’t make up rooms or change linens unless you ask.

The rooms were comfortable and laid out well, and the hotel is conveniently located for the price. Breakfast had a decent range, including eggs, bacon, pancakes, yogurt, and other things. The reception experience was the weak point. The staff member could’ve been more welcoming and accommodating. We also weren’t allowed to take yogurt from the little fridge in the shared kitchen outside breakfast hours, since we were told it was only available then.

The free breakfast had lots of choices, and the hotel is only a short ten-minute drive from the Grand Canyon. There are other food options within walking distance too. We stayed one night at the Grand Canyon Hotel & Suites, and check-in was quick and informative. Our standard two-queen room was clean, with comfortable beds and nice, firm pillows. We’d stay here again.
