Best Western Plus Southpark Inn & Suites

I booked through Booking.com early in the morning because I had work in a couple of hours and didn't want to drive home. I figured I'd treat myself to a room, but when I got there they had no record of my reservation. They said there was nothing they could do, and I didn't get the room I'd booked or any room at all. They just told me that was all they could do. Absolute garbage hotel.

The photos give a misleading impression. The property is old and dated, the WiFi is so slow it's almost unusable, breakfast is slim pickings and not very good, and the pool is open only about three months a year. Staff were just okay. There were lots of disappointments compared with what you'd expect from the listing, and you can feel kind of stuck during your stay. I'd look somewhere else.

The woman who checked us in earned the two stars; the room and amenities were the problem. It was smelly, so bad that even at $100 a night I couldn't shrug it off. I wouldn't be surprised if there were mold under the carpets. The photos should be updated, too, since there's no proper seating. While waiting for my spouse to get ready, I could sit on the bed or a sticky office chair. The TV remote didn't work, and the man at the desk was no help when I asked about it. All the vending machines were out of order. The area is good and close to everything, but it feels like Best Western has given up on the place. Glad we only stayed one night.

The night person who checked me in was friendly, but the morning interaction was bad. Around 10:00 a.m., I turned in my key because I thought I was leaving, then realized I might have left something in the room. I asked the man at the desk for another key. He just said, "let me go see," seemed mad, and never came back. I found a maid who let me in instead. That's why I try to stay at US owned properties when I travel.
