Hampton Inn & Suites Tyler-South

We arrived after 3, with several people ahead of us. The front desk man had told everyone that all the rooms on the lower level were definitely cleaned and ready. But when we got to our assigned room on the third floor, a woman was still cleaning it and said she'd need a little longer. We went back down, and about 15 minutes later the desk man said it was ready. It didn't look or smell clean when we got in. My husband had been working all morning, so we decided to tough it out for one night, but we won't book here next month when he comes back to work at the nearby nursing facility his company just bought. Later, after we got back from dinner, the man at the desk was arguing with someone on the phone. When we asked about checkout time, he answered rudely. My husband's company booking app said the hotel could give us a 2 p.m. late checkout, but he seemed too angry to look into it for us. The door also had such a large gap that it looked like it had been knocked out of alignment, and it didn't feel safe. I'll be awake while my husband is at work in the morning. They need new housekeepers because the cleaning clearly isn't getting done.

Liz had rooms ready for the whole crew by the time we arrived, which made everything easy. We didn't have to worry about finding rooms during the storm and could focus on the job. Thanks, Liz. We'll call this hotel first whenever we're working in the area.

The first room was awful: the bed wasn't made, the bathroom was disgusting, and there was hair on the wall. We went back to the desk and were offered a suite. It was better, though still not very clean, and there was a huge spider web right above the bed. So gross. We'd arrived at 2 p.m., an hour before check-in. The parking lot was empty and the front desk woman was sitting in the lobby, but she wouldn't let us check in, even though we weren't expecting the room to be ready. She just rudely told us to come back at 3. When we returned around 8 p.m., a man at the desk was singing and acting strangely before giving us the key. This is the worst hotel I've stayed at in years.

The front desk guy was pretty nice and helped me quickly, and the bed was good enough for a one-night stay. The bathroom was the problem. There was hair on the wall inside the door, apparently left by a previous guest, and a black mark in the tub that made it hard to tell whether it was clean. The shower door barely stayed shut. The room was okay for sleeping, but I probably won't return. I usually stay at the courtyard.
