Best Western Union City Inn & Suites

Breakfast was a big letdown. We chose the hotel because breakfast was meant to be our meal for the day, but all they had was muffins and juice. When we asked whether there was anything else, the reply was very rude and they said no. Since our flight had been canceled, the room and bed were only useful as an emergency place to stay. Terrible service.

Bala at the front desk was helpful when I reported the problems and asked him to tell the manager. The property manager, though, was rude and had no interest in listening or fixing anything. The air conditioning didn’t work, the bathroom sink drained very slowly, and there weren’t enough towels, coffee, or other supplies for three of us. I hesitated to write this, but feel responsible for letting others know. I won’t stay at any of their Days Inn - Wyndham properties again, and hope other people avoid a regrettable stay.

The room itself was nice enough for a basic overnight stay. The TV worked, the bed was comfortable, the area was quiet, and there was plenty of room to put luggage, including two spots to keep it off the floor. The breakfast, though, was much less than I expected from something described as “light.” There were standard chocolate chip muffins, juice, coffee, tea, and hot water. The juice machine was off at first, but the front desk person apologized and reset it. The tea tasted of coffee, as if the hot water passed through some of the same tubing. There was no butter or margarine, microwave, or plastic cutlery. To me, a light breakfast should also have bread or bagels, a toaster, spreads, yogurt, and milk. Similar hotels have also offered cereal and make-your-own waffles. My service rating reflects the gap between the promised light breakfast and what was actually available.

My daughter decided not to come back after the way the supervisor treated us, and the whole incident seriously affected my emotional well-being. I had left home hoping for a peaceful place to stay, not discrimination or humiliation. I was paying and following the rules, yet was made to feel unwelcome. I’m a college graduate and government employee with a respectable salary, but none of that should be needed to receive basic courtesy. On the second night, my 24-year-old daughter came to visit and asked at the desk to get to my room. The supervisor, who I assume is the owner’s or manager’s daughter, demanded to know whom she was visiting and my room number. My daughter felt the questions were invasive and declined to answer. The supervisor then rudely cited a “NO GUEST” POLICY. When I raised the matter, she became hostile, raised her voice, pointed at my daughter, and repeatedly belittled us with “IT'S SIMPLE!!!” There had also been earlier threats to evict me and keep my deposit over alleged policy violations. I’m appalled by the supervisor’s conduct and the lack of professionalism from the staff. Please investigate what happened, take appropriate action, and provide training so other guests aren’t treated this way. Everyone deserves dignity and respect, whatever their background or ethnicity. This stay left me deeply hurt and disillusioned, and I hope the hotel responds promptly so it doesn’t happen to someone else.
