I booked and paid for a weekend swim trip with my kids several days ahead, but when we got here they told me there was a $100 deposit. I invited family to swim with us, but the manager wouldn’t let us use the pool unless the “other people” left. The hotel was basically empty. I only wanted a swimming weekend for my kids. I came here three years ago and did this with no problems.

The staff were nice, and the breakfast was fresh: bagels, muffins, waffles, cereal, yogurt, bananas, granola bars, coffee, and orange and apple juice. The lobby was cleaned every day, and my room was clean too. But this is an old hotel that needs a lot of updates. The wallpaper was peeling, the bed was awful and felt like a box spring, the blanket was badly ripped, the shower pressure was poor, and the toilet was small and below standard height. The pool also needed cleaning. It was quiet apart from the sirens. I wouldn’t stay here again.

The manager, a woman who owns both this location and the Super 8 across the parking lot, was rude and, in my view, used unfair practices under Illinois consumer laws. I’ll file complaints with the Illinois Attorney General and the Better Business Bureau if this isn’t resolved. The company kept my deposit multiple times for the same alleged offense, vaping, without telling me or explaining why. The hallways smelled strongly of cigarette smoke and Marijuana. Vaping aerosolizes liquid rather than burning tobacco, but if they had told me, as the cardholder who paid for the room, after the first incident, I could have resolved the issue and it wouldn’t have happened repeatedly. We used to book here often, but the shady business practices and failure to communicate mean we won’t return. In the long run, they’ll lose more business than the money they cheated me out of.

I couldn’t get a restful night in Room 120. At 2:30 AM, a woman next door was yelling and crying, apparently on the phone. The room was already noisy from trucks on the busy road, and I found the window open about three inches, letting in cold air and traffic sounds. It wouldn’t close, and the lock wasn’t even close to catching. I was on the ground floor with a Burger King parking lot right outside. A single woman definitely wouldn’t want this room. I wasn’t too worried since I’m armed and a light sleeper, but come on, fix that window. At least the front door locked. The bed wasn’t great, and the shower pressure was below par. Parking worked for trucks, and there was some food nearby, but the stay was noisy and I wouldn’t really recommend it. My boss usually books online through Choice Rewards for a better rate, but the app wasn’t working, so he called the location. The guy at the desk promised a rate better than the regular price, but when I paid, it was higher than he’d said.
