Tallman Hotel

The small saltwater pool out back is quiet and tucked away. The grounds are peaceful, with mature trees and a fountain, and the historic hotel building has been lovingly restored. There’s parking on-site, with two Tesla destination chargers and a third charger for other electric vehicles.

We especially enjoyed the peaceful garden spaces, soaking tubs, and all the little details. The staff were top-notch, warm, and welcoming, and seemed genuinely eager to make our stay special. From the moment we arrived at The Tallman Hotel, we were enchanted by the mix of historic elegance and modern comfort. Our spotless, beautifully designed room had a cozy boutique feel that made it hard to leave. In the heart of beautiful Lake County, it’s a great escape for relaxing, wine tasting, and a bit of adventure. We left refreshed and spoiled, and are already planning another visit. If you want a unique, relaxing getaway with luxury and personality, Tallman Hotel is a must!

The pool, cottage, and Blue Wing restaurant were all in fine shape when we stayed at the Tallman last night. Breakfast could be better, though. There was no oatmeal, and when I asked, the person at the desk who handles food said they don’t have oatmeal these days. I switched to cereal, and he said he’d bring it out, apologizing that the cook had overcooked the granola. That was okay, but the mini croissants were good and some tastier muffins, or even scrambled eggs, would make breakfast more appealing. Some soft classical music would help too. 🎼🪉

The Tallman Hotel used to be a real gem in Upper Lake, but things have gone downhill since the management changed. A big, visible cost-cutting and simplification effort is hurting the guest experience. The nearby Blue Wing restaurant has less food on the menu and noticeably smaller portions. Breakfast at the hotel is much simpler than it used to be, and maintenance has been cut too. Could someone bring the Tallman back to its good old days?
