Burrstone Inn, an Ascend Collection Hotel

The bar was a fun surprise. Once GPS sent us all the way around the building, we found what looked like a bar because it was one, with a pool table and about six TVs. It's part of the hotel, and the Margaritas were delicious. The restaurant was closed, but that was no big deal. We picked the place because we wanted something affordable. Check-in was quick and about what you'd expect. The woman at the desk was polite and outgoing, and she helped explain a question about my membership and payment. She said to call if anything was still wrong and it could be fixed easily. There's also a fitness room. The building has a lot of wings. Our door was bent and needed a hard push or pull to latch. The TV was a good size and already on a movie channel, so I didn't change it.

Breakfast was great, with a big seating area and no lines for waffles or coffee during our three-night stay. The hotel had nice amenities, though the service was only okay. Housekeeping was the part that bothered me. I asked for towels on the paper and hung it on the door handle, but the request was ignored the whole time. There were three towels for the two of us for three nights, and we both have long hair. It was a good hotel, but I'm still miffed that there was no room service.

The price was good, so I'd stay again if I had two in the area. The lobby was clean, the staff were friendly, and the free breakfast was pretty good. The bathroom needs work, though. The toilet was crooked, and the shower curtain couldn't close all the way because its rod was crooked. One outlet wasn't secure to the wall. I booked a king room with a pull-out couch, but got only two chairs instead. It was okay overall.

Our son's team stayed at the Burrstone Inn last winter for a tournament, and the club chose the hotel. The rooms were clean but clearly dated. For a non-chain hotel, it was fine, though there are updated places in the same area for a little more money. In my view, the upgrades are worth the extra $50 or so per night. The attached bar got pretty wild on Friday, with open-mic karaoke that was entertaining to watch. Some people had real talent. The food was okay, but I'd recommend eating somewhere else.
