Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Dayton North

Even though our room was by the elevator shaft, it stayed quiet and we slept well. The room itself was very nice, and the front desk staff were friendly and helpful. Housekeeping left us short on towels, though. Breakfast was hot and pretty good, if a little bland, with plenty of condiments. There were only about five individual creamers by the coffee. Someone refilled the coffee urn but didn’t replenish the creamers, which surprised me.

The staff were great, and I had a good week here. A few room details could be better: the shower pressure was so high that water spilled onto the floor when I opened the door, and cold air came in under the window air handler when the wind blew from a certain direction. The bedside lamps were much too bright. The toilet paper also felt cheap for a Marriott property.

The room was clean and pleasant, but the fridge ran nonstop. I’m starting to think Ohio hotels have some kind of agreement to make sure none of them are comfortable. Every one I’ve stayed in here seems to have the same awful mattress, with worn-out pillow tops and really stiff springs.

The location was handy, close to plenty of stores and restaurants, and the staff were friendly. The continental breakfast was well stocked, and the rooms were basic. Cleanliness could use work: the sheets were thin and stained, and there was mildew around the shower door. The walls are thin, too, so I wouldn’t pick it for a quiet stay. Someone revved an engine off and on in the parking lot around 3 a.m. for about an hour, and nothing was done.
