The Ellison Suites

My room was comfortable, clean, and well kept, with a fully equipped kitchen so you don’t have to eat out all the time. The place has an old, rustic feel, but it felt more like somewhere to live than a typical hotel room. I’d definitely stay again.

I was impressed. The room feels more like a studio apartment, and the staff give you plenty of privacy while staying ready to help. The rooftop continental breakfast is good, if you get there early enough since the space is small. My only issue was the noise on the ground floor. The room is by an alley, with people passing the window often, and that takes some getting used to. I could hear activity upstairs too, though I think that’s hard to avoid. If you want to be just feet from the beach, this is a great choice.

The room we got was quite different from the contemporary ones in the photos, and honestly, interesting. I’ve never had to go upstairs to use a hotel or motel restroom before. The entrance is off a sidewalk away from the road, so I had to call to figure out how to get in. Then I learned there was no parking anywhere at the hotel, so I hope my car is still in the public lot. The beach is a block away. The front desk woman was very nice, helped with our luggage, and gave us a bottle of wine that was delicious.

The building needs a lot of work, even though I get that people who love art may appreciate its history. Our Lara del ray suite was underwhelming: there was just one small heater, the kitchen wasn't finished, and half the drawers were missing from the storage room. There were nails sticking up from the floor too. Check the pictures.
