Motel 6 Ventura, CA - Beach

I stayed here for a long time while waiting for escrow to close on my new home, and the day office staff made the experience miserable. Jack, the night manager, was professional and friendly, and the cleaning staff helped. But Sidney, the day manager, and Vanessa were rude, dismissive, and, in my experience, dishonest. They showed no hospitality at the front desk. When I handed Vanessa a $100 bill, she snapped that she had no change and told me to leave and come back with smaller bills. I was shocked. When I refused because that didn’t seem workable, she did make change. Later, I asked Sidney for another room because the toilet was unusually small and causing me great pain. She said they were all the same, though I’d experienced two sizes, and mocked the request by asking if we expected them to measure every toilet. Jack had said some were small and suggested asking for a standard one. After I mentioned that, Sidney and Vanessa kicked me off the property. I believe the company lost $2,500+ as a result. The people at the Homeless Camp out back were friendlier than those two. If you need a Motel 6 because you have cats and dogs, I know there are two other better ones in Ventura, and nobody but them takes cats. I regret putting up with this behavior for so long. My new hotel costs a little more, but it’s clean and happy, and the staff are friendly, educated, and well trained. That makes the extra cost worthwhile. Those two did me a favor. I hope this review gets the sad, “I hate life” women to smile, though I doubt it. ✌️

For less than a buck and change, this is a decent, affordable spot for the area. It’s two blocks from the beach, with quick bites, social bars, and fine dining nearby. There’s on-site security and plenty of parking, plus the rooms are clean and spacious, with a refrigerator. You can find microwaves in the lobby. No tubs, just a small shower with hand rails.

The place is getting old and worn, and it doesn’t seem to be getting the upkeep needed to make me comfortable booking another stay. The room also wasn’t as clean as it usually is: there were cobwebs and spiders in the bathroom, which makes me wonder how regularly those two areas are cleaned. It looked like a pipe had broken in the unit above and the repair was pretty shoddy. I could still see what looked like water leaking down into the drywall layers, and I was concerned the ceiling might give way because of the poor repair.

The desk staff’s cold, dismissive manner caught me off guard. I got no greeting at all, not even a hello or good morning, which felt like a surprising lack of basic courtesy in a professional setting. Customer service begins at reception. I hope management takes this seriously and works on staff communication and professionalism. From my experience, I wouldn’t recommend the place.
