Suburban Studios Verona - Staunton North

We enjoyed the breakfast, and the staff were really helpful when the TV gave us trouble. The room was clean, and we parked right in front of it on the first floor. It’s a nice motel just off the freeway. There wasn’t a coffee maker in the room, though. We also liked Armstrong restaurant, less than a mile away.

The owners were friendly, and the location is handy for a Mexican place and some fast food. It’s a family run franchise, with the husband and wife taking turns at the desk. The suburban studio rooms add a few things for longer stays, like a two burner stove and a bigger fridge. The bed was okay, though some rooms could use a refresh. Breakfast had cereal, muffins, toast, premade mini waffles, and a waffle bar. Better than Motel 6, but it’s no Ritz.

For the money, it worked out for me. We came for JMU’s homecoming weekend, when most hotels were charging twice their usual rates or more, and Suburban Studios was much cheaper. I usually stay in nicer places, so I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re picky. There were a few minor annoyances and the breakfast was lame, but it seemed clean enough, there were no noise problems or crazy people, and the savings made it worth it.

There was hair all over the beds and bathroom, far more than just a few strands. It looked like the room hadn’t been cleaned, and the bathroom had soap scum everywhere, like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks. The curtain had been ripped down and not repaired or replaced. The TV remote was missing too. When I called the desk, they told me to look harder, and no one ever brought a remote. Staff were rude from the start. Stay somewhere else. When we asked for a first floor room because of mobility issues, the staff were rude and asked why we couldn’t walk up the stairs, while looking at someone on crutches.
