Spark by Hilton Victoria

I'm from San Antonio, and my husband was born and raised in Victoria. We were in town for the weekend rodeo and checked in Friday. The room was very clean, but the TV remote didn't work. Zabrina was great and tried to figure out the TV problem. She said she'd leave a note on the manager's door since he doesn't come in on weekends, and they have no maintenance at all. We left at 7:30am Saturday and got back around 11:30am, wanting to rest that night. The TV still didn't work. Cheryl at the front desk was also great trying to sort it out, and said the manager knew about it. I had to use my phone all day, and nothing got fixed, so we had no TV all weekend. Not being able to find a manager is unacceptable!!!!!

The room was great, and it smelled amazing, but getting help at the desk was impossible. It was 2:32 am, the phone kept ringing, and nobody was there. I sat for over 30 minutes trying to check in and rang the bell more than a dozen times. I don't know how many times I needed help, but nobody came. My TV wouldn't turn off and the batteries were corroded. I only needed a little help, but the bell, phone, and talking got no response. Smh.

Checking in online went smoothly, and there were still helpful people at the front desk to offer local tips and recommendations. That mix made our time in Victoria better, beyond just having somewhere to sleep.

The breakfast was very limited: hot coffee, juice, milk, fruit, cereal, honey buns, and one waffle maker. That didn't really meet my expectation of a “hot breakfast,” even for a budget hotel. The bed was moderately comfortable, but it couldn't make up for the cleanliness and maintenance issues. On arrival, there were hundreds of ants, so I had to buy insect and cleaning supplies to feel comfortable. I also found holes in the walls and broken drawers, and had broader concerns about cleanliness. The TV worked, check-in interactions with staff were average, and nearby trains were audible but didn't disrupt my stay. This seems geared toward oil field workers, which I understand, though the upkeep felt more like long-term workforce housing than a typical leisure or business stay. After I raised my concerns, they weren't acknowledged at first. Later, management's texts became argumentative instead of focusing on a solution, which was disappointing and didn't feel professional or guest-focused. My stay was passable, but I wouldn't choose it again. I didn't expect luxury from a Super 8, just a clean room and professional communication. Better cleanliness, maintenance, and guest relations could make it more reliable.
