We ended up staying an extra night because we were having such a good time. Bert and Annie were kind and helpful, and we hope to return soon for a river trip. The view through the back French doors was magnificent, and we could even catch fish just 30 feet away. The Jacuzzi in the bathroom was a surprise too.

Our two standard poodles were welcome in the dog-friendly cabin, which made for a lovely weekend. We also had a great time hiking the Mckinnzie River trail and around clear lake. The riverfront setting was beautiful and peaceful, breakfast was yummy, and the Inn's owner Bert was so nice. We’ll go back again.

The hideaway bed was not comfortable at all, despite being described as very comfortable. At $245 a night, we were hoping the second bed would be comfier. Aside from that and the high price, we loved the place. We stayed two nights in the Atrium Suite with our two little ones, and the beautiful river location made for lovely evenings watching geese and King Salmon jump, then looking at the stars by a fire outside our suite. The majestic falls were a short drive away, and we soaked in Cougar hotsprings. Staff were welcoming and helpful. One of them even set up a clip-on chair at the dining table for our 9 month old. The kitchen had what we needed for a nice birthday dinner, and the bathroom’s huge jacuzzi tub fit our whole family.

We stayed in the Atrium suite, soon to be renamed Kingfisher Suite, with a lovely view of the McKenzie River. The place feels whimsical and private, with a handcrafted look that’s clearly well cared for. Bert shared stories about how the property has changed over time and what he plans to improve next, and I can’t wait to return and see what he’s done. For an angler, the location is hard to beat, on one of the fishiest sections of the whole river. Bert, the proprietor and fishing guide, helped us choose flies and decide which stretch to float. We brought our own drift boat and didn’t use his professional services, but he wasn’t put out at all. The water was too high to fish effectively from his property, though the peaceful setting more than made up for not having fish immediately available. I highly recommend it as a quiet, beautiful respite from everyday life.

The next morning we stretched out on a beautiful sofa in the den and watched the sun rise over the river. We also wandered the lush grounds and had a gourmet breakfast on the back deck overlooking the McKenzie. Eagles flew by, merganzers dove for breakfast, and geese rested nearby. The Meadowlark suite was gorgeous, with a very comfortable bed and complete privacy in a beautiful, luxurious riverside setting. Bert and Annie were personable, talented hosts who went far beyond what most hosts would feel they needed to do. This was the perfect first stop on our weeklong trip before heading to the Redwoods in California. I can’t wait to return to this special inn and its two amazing innkeepers. Thank you, Bert and Annie!
