Hampton Inn Vincennes

I arrived at 10 p.m. after landing in Indianapolis and dealing with major rental car trouble, only to find my name hastily written on a paper at the lobby desk. They'd given my room away without telling me. I checked my emails and missed calls, and there was nothing. I was sent to the Hampton Inn in Princeton with a supposedly comped one-night stay, but still had to pay for high-bandwidth internet. The other hotels in town were full. A couple of weeks later, I'm no longer furious, but I'm still appalled by the hotel's negligence and poor customer service. They overbook and cancel guests without notice, even though many people travel a long way to get here. The beds are uncomfortable and the breakfast is mediocre. Silver status didn't mean anything. This was a lesson to check in digitally. As a Hilton guy who needs easy access to Knox County, I'll stay here again, but be warned. Truly laughably bad experience. In short, I got booted without notice.

The staff were friendly and amazing, and the rooms were clean and modern. There's a well-equipped fitness center and a nice indoor pool, but the water is cold. I stayed two nights, and room 329 wasn't cleaned. Breakfast wasn't tasty at all, and I was kind of surprised it wasn't fresh.

We were two adults and two kids, but the hotel had run out of the double queen room I'd booked and offered us a king instead. The front desk did provide a rollaway bed, though I had to make several trips to get the bed, blankets, sheets, and pillows. That left the room super cramped, with no space to move around. The representative said they'd give me a 20-25% discount at checkout, then denied it. Not a good experience.

I hadn't been back to my hometown of Vincennes in 3 1/2 years. I booked and fully paid for a double queen room, but the hotel overbooked and gave it to a volleyball team because they said the team needed it. Since I was traveling with another guest, I ended up on a cot. It's upsetting and feels like a ripoff to have a room taken away and sold to someone else after I'd paid for it. I arrived from Chicago at 4 a.m. and the reception lady took 30 minutes dragging the cot into my room, delaying my sleep. I woke up with back pain.
