HI Martha's Vineyard

My first solo trip felt easy and pleasant thanks to HI Martha's Vineyard, and I even got to meet some new people. It has both private rooms and dorms, and the place is clean, spacious, and has a nice rural feel. The staff were great and very accommodating, ready with answers and recommendations. Outside there’s bike storage, a swing, an outdoor Shrek inspired shower, volleyball net, and parking, plus a bus stop just for the hostel. Highly recommend for solo travelers or groups.

This is my third year at the hostel, and it makes me feel like I belong on the island. I love the community spirit, sustainability, and good times here. The kitchen is fantastic, with plenty of coffee and tea and usually some food people have shared. I always meet cool people and enjoy the volleyball court and firepit. It feels like home.

We came back each night to a bonfire and a hot outdoor shower beneath the trees. I love this hostel. It's easygoing, peaceful, welcoming, and safe, though definitely not luxurious. The staff were laid-back and attentive to guests' needs and cleanliness, which matters when sharing sleeping and kitchen spaces. It's well placed for getting around by car, bus, or bike. We met some interesting fellow travelers, including a large group from Iran.

I tried several times to call about moving our reservation to October after our client on Martha’s Vineyard rescheduled their project, and I changed our ferry tickets to match. But notifications kept saying the original August booking was still active and non-refundable. I assumed asking for new dates would update the reservation, or that the original would be cancelled if the hostel couldn't fit us in October. If those dates weren't available, keeping the old booking active made no sense when we couldn't use the service. I called repeatedly and sent several emails over a week. After 4-5 days, someone answered once and said they'd reply by email, but then I heard nothing again. Even Booking couldn't reach them.
