Courtyard Virginia Beach Norfolk

PJ was excellent, and we had clean, renovated adjoining rooms on the first floor beside the pool. We stayed overnight before boarding our cruiseship in March 2026. The pool was closed and it was too cold to swim anyway, but having it there was a nice idea. Parking was good, and there were plenty of places to eat nearby. We tried a Hawaiian place and were disappointed. I’d seen a lot of bad reviews, so we were hesitant, but try things for yourself. If you’re nice to people, they’ll be nice back! God Knows.

The place looks pretty and clean, and the staff are very nice. I noticed a bistro that looked like it offered drinks and meals all day, but found out it only served a very limited breakfast, which wasn’t included in the room price.

This was a mixed stay. I usually favor Marriott properties, and had stayed twice at the nearby Springdale, but it was sold out for graduation events in mid-May. I’d almost never say this, but I’d consider the nearby Hampton Inn next time. The pool still wasn’t open, trees that had fallen hadn’t been pruned, the sink drained poorly, there was debris by the shower’s side grouting, and the bath towels were kind of small. The public garbage bins were noticeably overfilled and there was no coffee available for guests in public areas. That made me wonder if the hotel was understaffed or staff weren’t trained enough. I’m also unsure whether the investor or investors who reopened the property can afford the rehabilitation the rooms need to make this a really good Courtyard. Will it ever become 5*’s?

The renovated room was very nice, but the toilet kept malfunctioning. I told the front desk Friday morning and they said they’d handle it, yet it still wasn’t fixed when we checked out this morning. This was my first stay at the Courtyard Virginia Beach. Next time I’m in the area, I’ll return to the Residence Inn on Military Highway, where we usually stay.
