The Ocean Key Virginia Beach Resort

The bed was really comfortable, the floors and bathroom were clean, and I liked the renovated kitchen. It smelled of bleach, which I took as a sign things were nice and clean. The balcony door wouldn’t open, which was disappointing, though the big window still gave us a beautiful view. There was also a slightly odd smell in the place. I’d read some negative reviews and was a bit nervous, but we had a good stay. The property is older and not everything is perfect, though the renovations underway look impressive. We ate at Roma; the food was decent and it was convenient. The woman at the restaurant counter was especially friendly. I’d come back.

Once we finally reached the room, it was 77 degrees and the AC wouldn’t turn on. Our next door neighbors were loud all night, and in the morning I found bugs in the sink. I washed them away, but 20 minutes later they were back. This was the worst hotel stay of my life. We first arrived at 3:40 pm. Quin told us check-in wasn’t until 4, without checking whether our room was ready, though she said it wasn’t. They took my husband’s number and said they’d text if it became ready early. We went to eat and came back several hours later, and she was rude again. When my husband needed a pen to sign, they pointed at the pens with disgust. They were about to put us in an out-of-order room, but the front desk supervisor stepped in and saved us.

We slept comfortably and had a great ocean view from room 901. The studio was very clean, and Jasmine at check-in was friendly and made sure we understood what she was explaining. Room service also took care of our TV issue.

Ocean Key Resort has a great vibe, and the location is hard to beat. The staff are amazing, the rooms are clean and up to date, and everything they advertise is there. It worked well for both kids and adults. They also welcomed my service animals without hesitation, including my rather large, fluffy Siberian Husky. Plenty of places have no issue breaking federal law and turning us away, but that didn’t happen here. If I could give this place 6 stars, or 600, I would. Don’t hesitate to book.
