The room was huge, about the size of a one-bedroom apartment or maybe a little larger, and the big windows made it feel luxurious. There were extra blankets in the closet, and the pillows were some of the fluffiest I’ve had in a hotel. Since I arrived at 3 am, the entrance doors were shut, which made me feel safe traveling solo. The receptionist got me checked in quickly even though I was exhausted and crabby, and I was able to get a late checkout until noon. It’s perfectly located off the I-5. I can’t wait to stay again!

The rooms were spacious and clean, with kitchens that worked well for us. Staff were very nice, and the property was in good condition. We didn’t have breakfast because we were out before it was served. I stayed two nights at the Residence Inn by Marriott off of Plaza in Visalia, CA. It was a convenient base for getting to the 198 and 99 on trips to and from the airport and clients. As a Bonvoy member, booking with points was easy. If we return to Visalia, we’d stay here again.

What finally pushed me to lower this to one star was the checkout help. I asked for a cart and help moving my packed things, then waited about an hour. A staff member brought a cart but wouldn’t help move anything, and also refused to help take it back to my room when I asked. I was physically unwell and trying to pack to leave. It felt like one more refusal to help, even after I had escalated the problems. My extended stay at this Residence Inn began December 9 and cost more than $4,800. A few staff members were kind, but basic accommodations were repeatedly mishandled, requests were denied, and escalation didn’t lead to help. Early on, I asked for extra full-size bath towels, and that preference was correctly on my profile. The operations manager, Fernando, once said that needing more than two towels per day was “unusual.” It was said only once, but after that I felt much less comfortable making basic requests as a long-term guest. There were attempts to accommodate me after I raised concerns, but they often got it wrong. On several nights after long workdays, I came back to find small towels instead of bath towels, despite clear verbal and written instructions. I ended up drying towels myself and sometimes getting towels from the pool just to meet basic needs. The towel problem wasn’t fixed until December 27, just days before checkout. By then, weeks of disrupted sleep, repeated denials, and having to stay constantly on top of things had worn me down. I had the worst panic attack of my life and needed an emergency room visit. Later, I needed more ER visits, new medications, asthma management, and time away from work. The first night was difficult too. I’d asked for extra pillows when I arrived, but none were provided. When I called late at night, I was initially told no. I felt pressured to share personal medical history about previous shoulder surgeries before they made an accommodation. Then I had to go downstairs to get pillows that should have been in the room. I’ve since updated my profile to clearly say “extra” pillows, but that doesn’t change how it was handled then. There was never an apology or acknowledgment of how long these problems went on. As a Lifestyle Medicine nurse practitioner, I understand how chronic stress, poor sleep, and repeated invalidation affect health. It’s deeply troubling that such basic accommodation problems led to medical harm and multiple emergency visits during a stay this long and costly. A handful of kind individuals couldn’t outweigh the inconsistent follow-through, dismissive responses, and lack of accountability. Based on this, I can’t recommend the property for extended stays, especially for working professionals or anyone needing basic, reasonable support.

The suites were great, the location worked well for restaurants and trips to the national parks, and the pool and other amenities were good. It really is an awesome hotel. Breakfast was the weak point. I stayed four nights and saw only a few notable changes at the breakfast bar. The same hot options were there two mornings in a row, so I took off a star.

We’d definitely stay here again if we were in the area. Breakfast had solid options, and the kids enjoyed the basketball court and sitting by the outdoor fire in the evening. We were also right across the freeway from the Renaissance Faire that weekend. The two-bedroom suite worked perfectly for my wife, me, and our 9- and 5-year-olds. The master had its own bathroom, with the living and kitchen areas between it and the second bedroom. The other bathroom opened off the living area, which was handy with one kid on the sofa bed and the other in the second bedroom.
