We were seated right away at 8 pm on Tuesday, by a window where we could see the lava glow. That was a first for us, and we were really excited. The volcano view was the best part of the evening and made the whole experience. We had the soup of the day, served with fresh bread and butter, and stuffed chicken. Both were tasty and full of flavor. The staff were very nice, and the ambience was okay.

There’s plenty of seating and a woodfire to warm up by. The downside was that a few people kept the best seats for practically the whole day. They were already there when we arrived in the morning and stayed until 9 pm. I see this place as both a hotel and something like a visitor center for Volcano National Park. The restaurant food is decent for the price, considering the amazing views. We had dinner while watching the volcano erupt, though the dinner menu wasn’t great and felt a bit pricey. The staff were nice. A couple of years ago we stayed at the nearby camping, which was very affordable, about $100 for a hut, and included a tasty breakfast buffet. The photo shows the eruption view from Volcano House.

The vintage feel of the rooms added to the atmosphere, and everything was really clean. Staff were fantastic, and both breakfast and lunch were amazing for the food and views. Seeing the volcano’s glow from our room before bed felt surreal. Stay a night or two if you get the chance while exploring Volcano National Park. Highly recommended!

The view from our table was breathtaking. At night, it was very cool to see the volcano spitting a little. The sorbet was delicious, but they seemed to forget about desserts for half the group. Ours arrived about 20 minutes after dinner, while others waited around 10. Everyone had finished by the time ours came, and with fog rolling in, we still had a couple of hours to get back to the hotel. I was with the rest of the tour at the hotel restaurant and ordered the tofu dish. It didn’t have enough seasoning, and the vegetables needed some too, which was disappointing. 🍨 🍨

The crater and eruption views from here are spectacular. Volunteer rangers explain the volcano and the island’s eruption history, and the staff are friendly and know their stuff. The food is good, and the restaurant prices seem fair for the location. There’s a fireplace in the waiting area that keeps it warm. One of the best national park visitor centers I’ve been to.
