Rodeway Inn Wahpeton

I booked for one cheap night because of the weather expected the next day, and now I understand the price. Some remodeling had been done, but the pool was closed for maintenance, the breakfast setup was poor with few options, and a side door was left unlocked all the time. Nobody was at reception when I arrived, and I could barely understand the desk staff because of their accents. Honestly, I'm surprised Choice Hotels hasn't shut it down given the conditions.

There aren't many choices in such a small town, but I wouldn't recommend staying here. My room still had the previous guest's trash, and the shower curtain was so dirty I left it open while bathing. The TV didn't work, and when I asked, the employee told me to use common sense because it was rigged up in some strange way. Service was terrible, yet they wanted payment on time and would barge into the room while I was inside. He also wrote down my debit card details and charged it without my knowledge. There was no washer or dryer either, just a $10 charge per load.

It may work for adults who just need a cheap place to sleep, but I wouldn't bring my kids or grandkids. There were a lot of questionable people who seemed to be living there, and based on how the pool looked, I wouldn't even feel comfortable letting the dog swim. We skipped breakfast altogether. The staff were very friendly and check-in was easy; the rooms weren't terrible, though we had to switch when the air conditioning didn't work. There was also a toilet sitting in the hallway, and the trains on the nearby tracks were definitely audible.

My room had hardwood floors, a TV bigger than the one at home, and a bed that looked brand new. Everything felt fully updated, and I was really impressed. I don't understand all the one-star reviews. They seem to come from disgruntled people, maybe even competitors at nearby hotels.
