Homewood Suites by Hilton Walker Grand Rapids North

The place was really clean, modern, and cozy. The man at the desk was friendly and professional, too.

The bed was the worst part for me. I woke up extremely sore, and after sleeping in hotels all over the country, I can say this was the most uncomfortable bed I’ve ever had. The room also stayed stuffy all night because the AC kept shutting off, even while it was on. In room 324, every TV channel showed “off air.” I’ve got platinum status with IHG, diamond with Hilton, and Titanium with Marriott, and travel nationwide, so I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels. I regretted choosing Homewood Suites in Walker, MI for its opening night. I checked in around 11:15 p.m. The man at the counter didn’t acknowledge my Hilton status, didn’t know when breakfast was, and offered little else. Hospitality staff should be people people. At checkout, the blonde woman at the front desk didn’t seem concerned about my complaints, even though there was a sign saying Homewood Suites would make things right if a stay wasn’t right. She directed me to her manager and said, “My stay would be taken care of.” The emailed receipt showed just $50 taken off the room charge. I’d planned to give the hotel another chance after opening night, but that small adjustment changed my mind. I canceled my five-night reservation for next week and won’t recommend the place to friends or family. The bed alone puts me off coming back, though better customer service might have saved the experience. Stay somewhere else, you’ll thank me later.
