I’ve stayed in motels all over New York and Jersey because I hate paying more than $200 for a room. This one was very clean inside, and I felt safe there. The outside doesn’t look promising, but the rooms are up to date. Only complaint: the front desk guy needs deodorant. The whole lobby smells like you, sir.

I should’ve left, but figured we’d be okay for one night and check out in the morning. Then my son woke up with three ticks on his back. The room smelled oddly like cucumber, the desk chair had no wheels, and the beds sagged in the middle. When I unplugged my laptop to check why it wasn’t charging, the outlet came out of the dresser. It wasn’t even plugged into the wall, which was probably for the best since it looked like it had been spliced to the actual plug. The place is falling apart.

The receptionist was nice, but the front desk smelled strongly of an Italian sub. In the room, the sheets had cigarette burns and everything stank of cigarettes. There was also a dead cave cricket in the drawer. The door wouldn’t open unless you tried to break in. Awful!

The chair was missing a wheel, and when I asked the manager to replace it, he said to put something under where the wheel should be. They also tried to overbill me by $160. The sheets had large brown stains, the toilet bowl was covered in fecal matter, and the pillowcases had stains and hairs. The fridge was brown-stained inside, and the walls were grimy and discolored. There was an outlet by the sink hanging out of the wall with exposed wires. Outside, everything is run down and falling apart, and it’s even worse inside. I’ve stayed in a lot of hotels for work, but this was beyond anything I could imagine. I wondered if it was some kind of crack hotel. If you want to avoid catching a disease, stay away.

The rooms have been renovated, and most of the issues seem to be fixed. It’s definitely better than before. Each room has a similar setup, but at least one thing may be better or worse from room to room. It’s a good-sized room with a cramped bathroom that still counts as a full bath, with a tub and shower together. There’s barely space between the toilet and door for your legs when seated, and the door can’t open with someone sitting there unless they want their knees. The bathroom sink is outside the bathroom, though the tub can serve for quick sink needs. One nice feature is the large, well-lit mirror above a small sink that works as a vanity for hair, with a chair. There’s a rolling chair too, which I use in front of the lit mirror like I’m at a salon.
