The full kitchen in my room was a really nice bonus, and everything was clean and comfortable. The staff were sweet and kind, too. The building is older, but it felt cared for and has character. There weren't any scratches on the walls or broken tiles, and nothing gave me a reason to be unhappy with the quality. I considered four stars, then realized this stay deserved all five. I'd happily come back.

The hot tub has apparently been broken for at least six months, and only decaf coffee was available. For the price, this wasn't worth it. The room smelled bad, and the heater made it so hot that it took hours to cool down. The king bed wasn't awful, but it bounced and shook badly whenever we moved, and there were stains on the box springs under the mattress. The place was very outdated, with cracked walls and large, poorly fixed patches on the ceiling. I felt like I might fall through the bathtub, the sink drained very slowly, and there was no bathroom soap.

Our room was clean, but there was no soap at all, either for hands or the shower, and just a tiny bottle of shampoo. Disappointing. Shilo Inn can do better, and we won't be back. We spent the weekend here after choosing it online for the indoor pool and breakfast. When we asked at check-in, we were told they offered neither and hadn't updated the website in months. We were unhappy, since we had planned to spend the afternoon at an indoor pool.

The beds were clean, our room was cozy, and the other guests seemed fine. It's a no-frills place, but the staff were always eager to help and very patient with my son and our puppy. I also loved the view of the water and forest from the window. The night-shift gentleman was especially cool and gave us great scenic recommendations. We liked it enough to book another night instead of heading north. I'd come back, even just to say hi to the night-shift guy.

We wouldn't stay here again. Now that we know the city has so many shopping choices but nowhere good to sleep, we'd make a different plan. The sun was going down, we were tired of driving, and we planned to visit Astoria the next day. I think Cannon Beach had been recommended, but we didn't want to drive back there. The hotel is very outdated, though it seemed clean. We asked around and didn't hear that it had a history of drug overdoses, so we decided to take a chance.
