The place felt like being in jail, with hardly any amenities. There was a dishwasher but no dishes, cookware, or even silverware. That kind of neglect seemed to show up all over the building. The main staff member was an old man with a really bad attitude who repeatedly started confrontations with guests. I saw it happen many times, and he made strange, aggressive comments to me even though I got along with everyone else. He complained that I went in and out too much, for example. Another time, he accused me of breaking the no-smoking rule because I had a cigarette in my hand, even though I'd just come in from smoking outside. I was also robbed and had things stolen more than once. When I asked the main staff member to check the cameras, he said he had "no remote" and couldn't look without it. People were complaining about missing belongings every day, and it seemed like the thieves knew the cameras wouldn't be checked. Next door, the police swarmed the building while I was there, which added to the hostile feeling. I'm glad I wasn't assaulted. The old man needs to change his attitude and stop treating guests like inmates. I'm not coming back.

Easy check-in and good service. The hostel is near shops, restaurants, and the Capital Area. A great choice in Washington, DC 👌✌️

The bathroom situation was a mess. There's one per floor, no shower on the second floor, and the second-floor guests had to queue for a shower each morning. On our last day, that bathroom clogged, the first-floor bathroom was locked from the inside, and there was poop all over the ground-floor one, so we had to go outside. There was hair everywhere too, with no real sign of cleanliness. I had a private room, but it had no windows. They turned the heat up so high that I couldn't sleep unless I opened the door, and then people were yelling at each other at night. The property was in shambles, and seeing the people who live downstairs made me question the safety. This was the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. Never again.

The owner was rude and seemed like a scammer. He didn't know which beds were available and went into rooms while guests were sleeping. He demanded $280 more than the Booking.com price, then said he couldn't guarantee our belongings would be safe if we stayed. We left and were rebooked somewhere else. It was stressful and unprofessional. Don't be tempted by the low price, they'll ask you to pay more. Avoid.

For travelers on a budget, DC International Hostel is in a central spot with restaurants, shops, and public transit nearby, including the lively Columbia Heights and U Street Corridor. The White House, National Mall, and several Smithsonian museums are also close, making it easy to explore Washington, D.C. The dorm rooms come in mixed and gender-specific options, with air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and secure lockers. There's a fully equipped shared kitchen and cozy common areas where guests can spend time together. The rooms are clean and well maintained, and the hostel offers a comfortable, safe, affordable stay for backpackers, students, or solo travelers in one of America's historic cities.
