Windbreak Hotel

The room was clean and basic, which was fine since I was on my own. But one winter night cost a bit much, and what felt like BS to me was having no little coffee pot in the room, then being charged $5.00 for a cup at the restaurant. I won't stay again.

I was there when the incident involving the bartender at Trouhouse, Aleina, happened, and I read the upsetting review afterward. The man was volatile and seemed impossible to please, whatever happened. People sitting nearby complained about his behavior several times. Aleina is a wonderful bartender who treats people with respect and dignity. She's sweet, always positive, and her personality and laugh are infectious. She didn't deserve that review. Sometimes people have a bad day and take their frustration out on someone who doesn't deserve it.

Some of the wait staff can be less than nice, though I’m sure dealing with mean customers can be hard too. The quality used to be better, but that was when bread didn't cost $5 a loaf. I can understand why the sandwiches have gotten smaller. Changes over the years make it hard for me to give this a four-star review.

We’ve been eating at the Windbreak Cafe for 20 years, and Ashley looked after us this time. She was friendly, welcoming, knew the menu, brought our order promptly, and checked on us a couple of times. The dining area renovation looks attractive, clean, and welcoming, with an Alaskan flair. The menu is small but has great choices at reasonable prices. Our food was delicious, portions were generous, and the fresh fruit and vegetables were nicely presented. We recommend it without reservation. Give it a try.
