Oakdell Motel

A good hot shower was easy to enjoy, thanks to the strong water pressure. The room had a microwave and refrigerator, and there's plenty of parking. The place feels welcoming, the rooms are spotless, and the beds were supportive and comfortable. I have back issues, but didn't wake up with a backache. Seems like a nice spot for a trip or even a week or two to unwind and de-stress.

Worst stay I've ever had. This awful, small, nasty hotel kept my deposit, claiming I'd thrown out the towels. Is that even a reason to do that? It was overpriced, too.

The roaches were the deal breaker, so I left instead of spending the night. I'd planned to try to stay despite the rock-hard bed, which felt cheap and springy as soon as I sat down. With my back issues and side-sleeping, I figured it would be uncomfortable for me, probably for most people. I had pain relief and a heating pad, but seeing the bugs changed my mind. I killed two large roaches crossing the floor after a hot shower, then thought I saw another in the closet and shut it immediately. I also heard what sounded like mice scratching and running. I know that sound well, so I believe they were somewhere in the building. At first the room seemed nice and clean, and the AC worked well. A closer look showed a very dusty TV and stand, dirty windows by the door, and a blood or sauce stain on the wall near the closet. The back-facing window was clean and locked. There was a dim lamp besides the bathroom light. The shower looked clean, and its head and drain worked fine, but the floor seemed slippery. The handle wasn't in my way, though the curtain kept clinging to me, so I put a towel down just in case. The bathroom itself was cramped, with the toilet right by the shower and nowhere to put toiletries. I improvised with my stretchy necklace, rubber bands, and a plastic bag for soap, and set my shampoo on the toilet lid. The Wi-Fi was fine and the workers were very nice. Still, they expect guests to take out their own trash and keep clean a room that was already filthy, which is why service only gets three stars from me. I brought coffee but there was no coffee pot, just a microwave and fridge that looked clean. No free breakfast. The towels looked and smelled clean and there were enough of them. The chairs weren't suitable for bigger people and nearly touched the other bed by the window. The TV was fine, despite other complaints. The room did make squeaking noises.

We've returned to the Oakdell Motel for the past three years, and this was another great stay. The owners are friendly and helpful, and the renovated room was clean and comfortable. It's just right for our trips to the beach or Mystic Aquarium.
