Comfort Suites Elkridge Columbia Gateway

We’ve been coming here for about eight years while the kids play lacrosse at Blandair and Troy parks. The rooms are roomy and clean, and breakfast has hot eggs and sausage, waffles you make yourself, plus the usual continental items. Staff have always been helpful. Once, when our youngest was a toddler, he threw up on his blanket and tucked it beside the bed without us noticing. Housekeeping found it, washed it, and returned it. The indoor pool has been closed for renovations on our last few visits. The only real annoyance is the drive through a residential neighborhood to reach the hotel. I’m sure the owners didn’t choose that route, probably some bureaucrat’s idea.

The staff were kind and let me check in early because my flight arrived ahead of time, which I appreciated. Breakfast was alright: eggs, sausage, bagels, English muffins, toast, waffles, yogurt, and fruit. My room looked nice and the bed seemed clean, though I did spot a long hair on the sheets. The couch was another story. Whoever’s working, please check room 416, that thing was covered in all kinds of grossness. There’s also a small fitness room and an office area. The pool was being worked on during my visit.

The staff’s attitude is the main reason I won’t come back. They were dismissive, poorly mannered, and made the stay feel unwelcoming. The rooms were only somewhat clean, though the beds were fine and it was fairly quiet. We had to leave the hotel to find food despite the advertised “room service.” Shower pressure was weak, Wi-Fi was awful, and I only learned the pool was “temporarily closed” after I booked.

After a tiring road trip, we spotted a Comfort Inn sign on the DOT hotel indicator and decided to stop. The route after leaving I-95 took some figuring out, but the commercial signs helped. The parking lot was well lit, and the front desk staff were friendly. I expected a little room with a queen for the price, but got a small suite with a sitting area, fridge, coffee maker, and a very comfortable king bed. Thanks, Comfort Suites, for a restful stay.
