Travelodge by Wyndham Watertown

Breakfast was scant, with little variety and no hot food. The room could sleep four with its two double beds, but the facility charged $15 plus tax per night for each person beyond two. The building is older, and everything looks dated and worn. There was a musty smell throughout, worse inside the small, cramped rooms, which didn't have many outlets. In the accessible room, the grab bars by the toilet and in the shower were poorly placed.

The receptionist was pleasant, but didn't seem equipped to handle problems, like getting me fresh towels. On Saturday night the manager wasn't available. The receptionist said he was busy and would get back to me, but that didn't happen. The hotel wasn't clean, the elevator was broken, and my first-floor room smelled strongly of chemicals. The sheets had spots. Breakfast was cold powdered eggs and sausage, with no water available. GPS took me to Check Fort Inn. I'd give the place a 1 in every area except friendliness.

We'd been happy staying there for years, but this visit was a different story. The tub had no cold water, only boiling hot water, so bathing or showering wasn't possible. An employee confirmed the problem. The girl at the desk showed no interest in doing anything or lowering the cost, and management never contacted us. The elevator was out of order, and there was no breakfast despite it being advertised.

The room itself was clean and spacious, and even had bed bug mattress covers. But the hallway smelled musty, and the washroom had no ventilation fan, so leave the door open when showering. The curtain wouldn't open all the way, which left water on the floor. There were only three towels, and the desk said they had no more. I've traveled to hotels for 40 years and had never heard that before. With only three cars in the lot, I felt they should have compensated me, but they refused. The TV remote didn't work, and the staff couldn't figure it out. The elevator had an out-of-order sign, though my room wasn't on the second floor. Then I was told the continental breakfast was broken and there wouldn't be any. I laughed, but the hotel or Wyndham should have told me before I arrived, since I would have canceled and gone elsewhere. The desk person greeted me properly, though in a very monotone way. There were only three cars in the lot when we arrived. I've been passing through Watertown for over 40 years, and this will be my last stay at the Travelodge.
