Travelodge by Wyndham Waukegan Gurnee

The bed was comfortable, and the desk clerk was polite, but the bathroom was plainly dirty when I arrived. There was a bar of soap jammed under the tub drain, a soap wrapper by the toilet, something like eyelashes, curled hair, or stitches on the floor by the tub, and toilet paper or Kleenex behind the bathroom door. Two spots on the walls looked like splattered BM. I took photos to the front desk, and the clerk just said, "oh, they didn't clean it." I asked for a discount, but he said only the manager could approve one and no manager was there. He gave me the hotel card, so I emailed the manager Friday night. It's Monday and I still haven't heard back. They don't seem to enforce room cleaning or care about it. People, beware. I don't recommend staying here.

Getting my Rewards points back has gone nowhere so far. I spent 7,500 points to stay here, and it's the worst Wyndham hotel I've experienced, despite traveling weekly for work. The place was filthy, with soiled, ripped furniture, blood stains and mold on the shower curtain, tattered stained towels, cigarette burns on the blanket in a non-smoking room, and ripped, stained sheets. The microwave didn't work, and though coffee was listed as an amenity, the breakfast area was dirty and run down with just one thermos of coffee and no cups, cream, or sugar. Staff were rude. They also required a cash deposit and wouldn't take my credit card, so I had to use an ATM and pay another $5 in fees.

The place looked completely run down, and I can't give it any stars. I had booked and paid three months ahead, but at check-in he said I still owed for the room. I showed him my confirmation and receipt, and he still wanted to charge me again. I understand incidentals, but this was the room payment. When I called to speak with a manager, she asked what room I had stayed in, even though I hadn't stayed in any room. He was very rude.

There were no towels, toilet paper, soap, or shampoo in the room. The front desk gave me those when I asked, but why should I have to ask? At check-in I was also told there was a $20 security deposit payable in cash. It wasn't listed on the website or on the printed sheets of extra costs by number of people per room. I happened to have a twenty, but I don't always carry one. At checkout I had to wait for an employee to inspect the room before I could get the deposit back. I'm not staying here again.
