La Quinta Inn Wausau

This worked out well for a Granite Peak ski trip, with the resort just a short drive away and lots of places to eat nearby. One thing to know: there’s no elevator to the second floor, though there are several stairwells.

We were here ahead of an appointment the next day. The beds were really comfortable, the room felt welcoming, and the woman who checked us in was polite and professional. We tried the hot tub, though its jets could have been stronger. All in all, it was a great stay.

I slept well, the room was clean, and the hot breakfast was good. I’d stay here again, though the shower temperature was odd: the water was either very hot or kind of cold, while the spot in between had almost no pressure. I’d been told on the phone the room would cost $113 and change for the night. At check-in it was $149 and change, plus a hold of a little over $50. I paid and stayed, even though I’d expected the price I was quoted.

We left our little “vacation” two hours early because the stay was so stressful. In the morning I found a cockroach in the room. I told staff politely, even though I was having an anxiety attack, and they were rude and dismissive. They said roaches are part of daily living and don’t qualify for compensation. I never felt like a valued guest. This was meant to be a relaxing escape for me and my two young children, but I couldn’t wait to leave. I’ve paid half as much at dingy motels and felt far better treated, without worrying about bugs in my room. 🤬 The pool water was too cold for my five-year-old, and the pool room was cold too. I couldn’t bring myself to stay for breakfast, so I can’t comment on it. The internet was so slow that nothing on my phone would load, so I used my data. The TV remote barely worked, and the poor Wi-Fi meant I couldn’t screencast. Our room was by a side door that slammed so hard it shook the bed. It kept being used through the night. I finally fell asleep around midnight and was woken at 6:30 a.m. by the same noise. I also see an advertised price around $70, but I paid $190. I won’t return and wouldn’t recommend La Quinta in general.
