The little diner right in the parking lot is a treat. The red headed waitress is my favorite and remembers me. If the grumpy older lady with gray hair is working, I ask to move because she can be rude for no reason. I also like that early check-in is usually possible, with a reasonable fee. They say they can't do it before around noonish, but I've found that if you sleep in the lobby with your luggage, they somehow get you in quickly. I've come here many times on Detroit trips over the past few years, and the comfy beds and cleanliness have been consistent. I've stayed in fancy places and in grimy, bed bug and roach spots that were a lot cheaper. For a budget rate, this is the best I've found. I don't use the TV much and can't remember the amenities offhand. I come to Detroit mostly for leisure, the people, good vibes, and great prices, and this hotel has become part of that. The jacuzzi tubs are around 70-80 bucks a night, which no other hotel seems to match, though at 5 foot 3 I have to fold myself into one. The area isn't eight mile at 2 am on a Saturday. Keep the door closed and locked and it's completely quiet. I like it here, maybe even love it fr. It feels like an important part of my Detroit trips, and I'm glad I can stay somewhere I enjoy without paying double for a similar hotel every day. I'm looking forward to my third stay, and to coming next month. Before using the tub, I bring jetted tub cleaner and run it through a few times. The water looks pretty clear and not nasty afterward, but cleaning it puts my mind at ease while I soak with my Motown playlist. I'd rate the tubs 4.8/5 because using them takes gymnast type bending, unless you're doing couple stuff and don't mind being uncomfortable as hell. Price gets 10/5. After YEARS of looking, I haven't found a better, cleaner, safer place at this price, unless you've got reward points to use somewhere else.

The room had several problems, and nobody responded when I contacted the hotel about them. The mattress pad was very dirty and looked like it had menstrual blood on it. It was cold, with only one blanket, and the loud heat kept us awake. The Travelocity photo showed a bathtub, but the room had none. The TV didn't work at first, so we had to wait for a service guy, and the chair was peeling badly. It seems like they could replace it for $40 at Staples. I wouldn't recommend staying here unless you're okay sleeping on top of dirrt and menstrual blood.

There was somebody else's groceries in the pantry cabinet, and the room clearly hadn't been cleaned. It smelled musty and strongly of cigarettes, so I slept on towels on top of the bed. Asking to switch rooms didn't work out. At least there's a 24/7 white castle next door. Goodbye, red apple inn.

My friend and her partner only rented a room to use the jacuzzi. She never slept in the bed, and the towels were only used to wipe the floor after they got out of the tub. Still, she didn't get her deposit back. When she called, she was told the sheets were stained and the towels were too dirty to clean. If the place is so dirty that barely using a room leads to charges like that, they should rethink how they run it, or whether they should be in business. The owners and “management” should be ashamed. We'll tell everyone we know and post about it on social media so more people hear about these scammers.

We found stains on the sheets, and the jacuzzi was dirty when we filled it and turned on the jets. I went to the front desk both times, but nobody was there. We were already about an hour and a half into the stay when I checked again, still with no one at the desk. Thankfully I had blankets and pillows in the car, so my husband and I used ours instead. The trouble carried into checkout. I put their blankets, sheets, pillowcases, and towels in the middle of the bed. I hadn't realized I had mixed up their soft brown blanket with my own, which was also soft and brown but a little lighter. I swapped them back. Then the housekeeper told the desk I'd damaged two sheets, a towel, and a washcloth, and I was charged for them. If somebody had been at the desk doing their job, they might have known those items were already damaged. I spoke to the manager on site and explained, but was still charged, so I said I'd take the items home, wash them, and bring them back to show the stains could come out. He told me to return before three, and that if they washed out, I'd get my deposit back. What kind of business is this? The housekeeper gave me the name David, but I heard another man call him Brian. He changed his name when I said I was contacting the BBB. I'll update after I go back before three and see whether I get my money back, which I'm sure I will. This was my first, last, and only stay here. The rundown room was ghetto and overpriced. I was quoted one rate on the phone, then charged $35 more at arrival, separate from the $50 security deposit. We figured some issues might come with the area, but this was ridiculous. Read everything before signing anything. Check the room and tell the front desk right away what's wrong. Sorry this is long, but definitely read it.
