Colony House Motel

The staff had great energy and were so courteous and kind. Our room had a microwave, refrigerator, toilet, sink, shower, and plenty of storage. It felt cozy and looked pretty, with a lovely view. And the towels were absolutely amazing, I can’t gush about them enough. The floors were wet, with the carpet and tile staying damp. It was definitely from the rain, and the place looked like it was built into the hill. My mold and mildew allergies didn’t flare up, so they’re clearly keeping it clean, but a little extra TLC would make this a five-star stay. Compared with the much pricier Marriott and other hotels nearby, which stay booked, this place felt like a gypsy heaven. My dad is resuming his apalachian trail hike, and I’m excited to start my Skyline Drive experience feeling rested, fresh, and inspired. I love Virginia!😍😍😍

The new owners seem to be keeping the place up, and the motel looks much improved from many earlier reviews. Our rooms were tidy and clean, and the owners were friendly and attentive. The water briefly went out as we were leaving in the morning, but they were already working to fix it and kept everyone updated. We’d stay again in a heartbeat.

The shower was hot and the bed comfortable, so if you’re cold and tired, it’ll do. It’s an old motel that’s seen plenty of traffic, though, and at almost a hundred dollars a night I was disappointed there was no coffee in the lobby. Don’t expect facial tissue or maid service over a couple nights. Some details are rough too: outlet covers missing, curtain rods nailed down at both ends, and a bathroom door that won’t close unless you move a rug. Three stars at best.

The location was good, the front desk guy seemed nice, all the appliances worked, and the shower head was nice. But it wasn’t worth what we paid. Our carpet had a big wet spot, the bathroom door was nearly off its hinges, and the old mirrors were chipped. A ceiling tile was out of place, so we put it back to cover a strange hole. The heat above the bed was extremely loud, and people staying there were fighting loudly at night. Something in the room was chomping and chewing loudly enough to wake us. There was smoke smell in our non-smoking room, and no coffee ready in the morning. We had to ask, and what they made was really bad.
