We stayed one winter night, when the roadside motel on the hillside beside the highway was pretty empty. The walls are really thin, so you can hear everything from neighboring rooms. The basics were fine, and the place is definitely a one-night kind of stop. On the plus side, the fan can stay on constant, the shower has strong water pressure and a rain shower head, and the bed and pillows felt new and were very comfortable.

The location is beautiful, and the room was nicely decorated, but I couldn't get a warm shower. I let the water run for 15 minutes and it was still freezing. For the price, that was really frustrating. The TV didn't work either, though that mattered less. There's nobody on the property, so you can only reach someone by text or phone. You also have to book online, which is fine once you know. When I reported the lack of hot water, they texted that I was the only guest that night and the heater might take a while to catch up. That response was frustrating, especially given the cost.

We had a little confusion when we arrived, but the manager/owner was really helpful when I called the number provided. Great customer service. The motel is cute, clean, and easy to get to. All in all, it was a great trip, and I'd definitely stay again.

The AC was our main issue. It kept switching between very cold and muggy instead of staying in one mode, and a light kept blinking. The filter looked a bit dirty, which might have been related. Other reviews seem to mention quirky AC units too. We loved the location for Shenandoah National Park and the Blue Ridge Tunnel Trail. It cut about 15 minutes off each drive to the Park, and while the Lodge costs a little more than the hotels in town, the location may be worth it for the Blue Ridge Parkway or Shenandoah National Park. We've visited family and hiked around Shenandoah a few times a year, and this was our first stay at Grey Pine Lodge after several trips staying in and around Waynesboro VA. Our room was clean, as was the bathroom, and the noise from our road-side room was minimal once inside. It was very simple, just a bed and small table and chair, no lounge chair, which was fine. There was no hand soap in the bathroom. Maybe it was missed or maybe guests have to bring their own, but it wasn't a big deal. The fire pits and string lights were nice. There are only a few Adirondack style chairs, and another family had all three at their firepit on our first night, so we used our camping chairs. I'd bring your own if you plan to sit by a fire. We would consider staying again on a spring or fall trip next year.

The motel is cute, and the location is fantastic, right by the BRPW and Shenandoah NP. I liked the fire pits and shared picnic areas, and I was happy to be able to bring my dog. There isn't a front desk or staff member on site, so questions go through their call or text line. Our room, number 101, seemed especially affected by the bright lights just outside both windows. The curtains barely blocked them, so it looked like 7pm in the room all night. I understand the lights are needed, but they should add real blackout curtains or dim them after 10pm. I texted to ask if they could be turned down and got no reply that night or the next morning. There were also a few too many dead bugs caught in cobwebs in a corner. I'm still unsure whether I'd return.
