Days Inn by Wyndham Weldon/Roanoke Rapids

The room was clean, in good shape, and had enough outlets for two people to charge their devices. The beds were comfortable, though the pillows felt oddly firm and had a strange texture. We were hit by a very strong cleaning-product smell when we arrived, which bothered me because I'm sensitive to strong scents. The hotel is easy to reach, right off I-95, and the room worked fine for an overnight stop. The fridge was off or not working; I didn't spend time figuring out which, and we didn't use the TV. I'd stay again while traveling by.

The breakfast was fresh and tasty, and the towels were a good size and clean. I also liked seeing the bleach smell when I came in, since it reassured me that the room had been cleaned and disinfected. It was reasonably priced and impressively clean. There were a few small marks on the bedding, but they could be covered with a towel or the cover, and the ice maker didn't work. Still, it was very nice and I'd definitely come back.

We only stayed the night while heading home, and it turned out better than I expected. The breakfast was great, and the employees were great too. Everything in our room worked. The TV was bigger than usual, and the bed was great.

At check-in around 11 p.m., Room 333 looked basically clean and the beds were made. The $130 cost for a 12-hour night felt a lot less justified once I noticed the worn-down maintenance. There was dried hair on the bathroom floor, and a powdery film, more like actual powder than cleaner, covered the faucets and counters. Then a roach showed up. The shower and very large jetted tub are combined, with a step up well over two feet, so I wouldn't recommend this room for anyone who has trouble lifting a leg.
