Ne'r Beach Motel

The owners and staff were very friendly and helpful, and there's a nice outdoor kitchen for cooking a fresh catch. It's a simple hotel, but clean and equipped for a comfortable stay. Also pet friendly, including cats as well as dogs.

The location is the one real plus: it's close to Wells Beach, restaurants, shops, and downtown Ogunquit. But after our stay, we won't return or recommend this place. We paid $338 for three nights because of the low rate, and it felt like a case of getting what you pay for. There are many nicer, cleaner hotels nearby. I wish I'd checked the Google reviews before booking, and would've gladly paid more for better accommodations. We spent three nights over Memorial Day weekend and wished we'd chosen somewhere else. The Expedia photos were very misleading; the place looked nothing like them. Parking was limited. We had two SUVs, but were told only one could go in front of our room. The other had to be left on the far side of the building, out of our sight. We stayed in room 15K, a one-bedroom "suite." A strong musty smell hit us as soon as we entered and set off my allergies. The bed had no blankets, only a dirty sheet and a very thin, uncomfortable bedspread that felt like a tablecloth and was too small. With chilly, rainy weather, we were cold. The heat was inefficient, and the heat pump didn't seem to work right. Broken curtain clips left the bedroom curtains hanging off the rod so we couldn't fully close them. The shower water never got beyond lukewarm, at best. The bathroom sink filled up and drained very slowly. In the kitchen, the two-burner stove didn't work, so we couldn't cook the steaks we'd brought. The refrigerator door wouldn't stay shut either, and we had to buy a cooler to keep our food from spoiling. The Wi-Fi was slow and spotty, disconnecting after just a few seconds each time, so it was basically useless.

The front desk and housekeeping were friendly, and the other guests were kind too. There are outdoor spots to hang out, plus a kids' playground and shuffleboard. The rooms even use actual keys, which I thought was cool.

Right on Rt. 1 in Wells, ME, in York County, Maine. It's part of Vacationland and New England, around 6-7 hours by car from NYC. Worth the trip to the Northeast and this coastal town.
