Econo Lodge Inn & Suites Triadelphia - Wheeling

There’s no elevator, as we learned at check-in. The bathroom ceiling in our first room had some kind of mold, and in the next room a dresser drawer looked like it had been ripped out. Several outlets were pulled out of the wall, leaving wires exposed. Despite the no-smoking rule, the hallways smelled of smoke and animal urine. Two ice machines weren’t working, and a dog in one of the rooms was howling nonstop. The staff were rude and wouldn’t give us a receipt. Absolutely don’t stay here.

At $62 a night, this was a nice hotel for the money. The staff were friendly, seemed interested in how our stay was going, and made us feel cared for. Breakfast was free and basic, nothing fancy, but enough for our family before we hit the road.

The breakfast was very poor, even for a budget hotel. I arrived an hour before it ended and found almost nothing but cereal. I took the last bagel; there were no muffins or yogurt, and the bread was nearly gone. I looked for kitchen staff but couldn’t find anyone. The ice machine nearest our room wasn’t working, though another one on the floor was. A man stood by the entrance near our room, moving his hands and staring inside. I felt a little odd and unsafe when I went that way to look for ice. The hotel is huge, with long halls and lots of rooms, but it’s worn down and needs renovation. Nothing too crazy, especially for the price, and acceptable for a night. The location on top of the hill is great, by a gas station and souvenir shop. The lobby is large and very nice, with patriotic decorations, and coffee and hot water are available all day. The room was okay for the price, with plenty of space, a TV, and a bathtub and shower that were fine. Our room, number 145 with two beds, had no carpet. That mattered to us because our autistic child spends a lot of time on the floor. The photos showed carpet, though I understand that isn’t a priority for most guests.

It needs a full overhaul, but for the price it worked for a quick overnight stay. The breakfast was horrible, and the place smelled a bit musty with hints of cigarette smoke. Still, it did the job for the price and one night.
