The location worked well for me, with shops and restaurants nearby and no noise getting in the way. My room was roomy, clean, and looked well cared for, and the staff were friendly whenever I needed something. Breakfast had plenty of fresh choices each morning. I’d stay here again on another trip.
We come to town a couple of times a year to see family, but this hotel has gotten nastier with each visit. This time there were roaches, dirty towels, no soap, filthy floors, and hair in the tub, which made it look like it hadn’t been cleaned. The new linoleum was greasy, the bathroom fan didn’t work, and there were broken windows in nearby rooms. The common areas were disgusting, too, and the pillows were a joke. We’ll find somewhere else next time, even if it means staying far away.
The owner was nice, but after driving in through bad weather, we were charged $90 per room instead of the usual $55. It felt like most of the rooms weren’t even open to the public, and maybe those rooms were worse than ours. Ours was a little scary: there was no soap, spots on the towels, broken lights, and the carpet needed vacuuming. We were also made to use the back door and walk through a foot of snow. The soap dispensers were moldy, and I nearly had to beg for two extra pillows.
The innkeeper was cordial and tried to give me the best room available, and I’ve stayed in worse places. Still, the hotel had a Norman Bates feeling, with two floors, and looked abandoned from the outside. The rooms smelled musty and moldy. Some windows on one side were busted out, and my shower had a dirty washcloth in it. The curtain had a lot of mold, though they replaced it by the next evening. There weren’t many towels, and some had plenty of stains. I can’t see myself coming back. If you’re running a hotel and want guests, you’ve got to take care of it.
My stay was on 7/20/2025, and I found a major security problem: by accident, I discovered my key card could open any room. My room also wouldn’t lock securely, and the lights didn’t work. I saw a broken window at the back of the hotel as well. The place was dirty, with stains on the walls, floors, sheets, and towels, plus peeling wallpaper everywhere. The sinks drained slowly, and when someone in a neighboring room used the toilet, mine ran. The single guest laundry dryer was broken, and the so-called continental breakfast was awful, with no protein, low-quality options, and nothing being replenished. Several other customers’ reviews mention bed bugs. Fortunately I didn’t encounter any, though my MIL thinks something bit her. I also suspect the reviews are being manipulated to make the rating look higher. If this is Sonesta’s brand, we’ll steer clear of its properties from now on. Do better.
