Days Inn by Wyndham West Allis/Milwaukee

We came to Milwaukee for the first time and booked through a third party without checking the reviews first. They were dreadful, but our experience was very different. We were in town for 11 days to visit family, and the hotel worked well as a place to sleep. It's older and some things are dated, but we'd stay here again. The central location made getting around easy, and there are restaurants and a bar close by. We liked the food at Pallas, which gave 10% off with a room key card. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the hotel was quiet. We only heard neighbors when a door shut hard, apart from some small kids next door on a couple of nights. We felt safe and didn't see the drugs or other signs of crime mentioned in some reviews. Our room stayed comfortable during the whole visit, even though the cooling circulators are old. I grew up with those units and know they can leak when humidity is high. The floors were vinyl plank and tile, and the bathroom was clean and mold free. Towels smelled fresh, the water pressure was amazing, and there was enough hot water for four showers in a row, even with teenagers taking their time. The beds are firm, which we like, and we slept well. Sheets were clean, housekeeping changed them every few days, and we got fresh towels daily. Having worked in housekeeping myself, I know a small tip for room refreshes can mean a lot. It's a service job, like waiting tables or styling hair. A few things to know: there's no microwave, breakfast was just granola bars and coffee, and the key card readers on the doors are worn and temperamental. The AC units can leak in humid weather, and the rooms feel a little dim with the curtains closed. Breakfast options are limited, but the location, service and comfortable room suited us. It's about 15 minutes from everything, and we'd stay again next time.

There were signs all over advertising breakfast, but nothing was served. The shower was moldy, and the hot water came out brown. When we mentioned it, staff casually said the water heater was broken. We should have been told before check-in.

The only thing going for this place was being near the ballpark. We booked one night at the last minute for a Brewers game, and I wouldn't come back. The area felt very sketchy, the bathroom ceiling had mold, and the old AC had no way to adjust the temperature. Floors and mirrors were dirty, too. The price had jumped because of the game, so nearly $200 for the night wasn't worth it. They also charged an extra $150 as a security deposit.

I left a day early and didn't get the room rate refunded. The bed was old, hard and noisy, and I was bitten several times by what seemed to be bed bugs. The carpet was dirty, too. Days Inn West Allis is filthy, with decor that looks 40 or 50 years old and badly needs remodeling. 👎🏾
