Five Star Inn West Covina

My wife and I asked for a single-bed room, but the first room was awful. The elevator was filthy and felt like it could fail at any second. Inside, there was a strong chemical smell, as if it was covering something worse, like urine mixed with cigarettes. The restroom smelled even worse. Dry powder was on some furniture and the floor, maybe from the wall or recent construction, and it looked like nobody had bothered to clean it up. We asked for another room, but it was almost the same, with a noticeable ugly stain on the bed blanket. We decided to cancel and not stay that night. We booked through booking.com. The front desk worker told us to cancel through them and said he'd handle the rest and refund us. Booking.com contacted him, and he confirmed by email that he'd refund us. A week later there was still no money back, so I called booking. They said he'd agreed but hadn't sent it. They called him again, and he agreed once more. Another week passed with no refund. I went back to the hotel, but the employee there didn't speak English, so I spoke with his manager, who also seemed to have trouble understanding me. He asked me to leave my booking details, name, and phone number. I left every detail I could think of and waited for a call that never came. A week later I called booking for the third time. They sent him a reminder with a deadline to respond and refund me, but nothing arrived. When I called booking again after the deadline, they said they couldn't do anything. I'm not usually one to get mouthy or make a scene, but this was the worst hotel experience I've had. The business is extremely unprofessional, right next to a Days Inn, literally. They seem to have time to respond to other reviews, so why not answer my emails and send my refund? It feels like they only care about keeping my money, and I strongly advise people to stay away. They don't care about your comfort.
