Econo Lodge Erie

It takes a lot for me to bother writing a bad review, but this place deserves one. The sheets and pillowcases looked unwashed, smelled, and had hair on them, and there were bed bugs on the bed. The floor was sticky; the curtains were filthy and full of holes. In the bathroom, the hinge on the door was broken and it seemed like it might fall on me. There was a stuck piece of spit in the unflushed toilet, and the towels and tub had hair on them. No hangers either. The room smelled of cigarettes with another strong smell over it, and toilet paper covered holes in the wall. Shame on the owner. I’ll never come back.

I felt so unsafe that I put a chair in front of the door in case someone broke in and left my TV and lights on while I was away at work for 14 hours, hoping nobody would rob the room. I was also upset that I didn’t want to bring my girlfriend into such an unsanitary place. The good points are that it’s inexpensive, near downtown New Haven and lots of restaurants, and the customer service was good. The rest was disgusting. My bedsheets were damp and had someone else’s hair on them, and there was hair from other people in the shower. The hallways had a lot of trash that needed vacuuming. I understand buildings may not have hallway outlets to stop people charging phones or stealing electricity, but they should get battery powered vacuums or even leaf blowers to clean. Many doors had chipped paint, and my room had greasy stains all over it.

The location is convenient to the highway, but my clothes came out smelling and I had to wash everything. I bought cleaning supplies for the room and bathtub myself. There was dust above the bed on the ceiling, a dirty AC filter, and a microwave that didn’t work. The mattress had stains and mold on the other side, with blood stains too. When I shifted it a little, a crack pipe fell out from between the mattress.

We booked one night through Priceline.com, but the condition of the place was so bad from outside that we didn’t even unload our things. One of us went in to check the room, 206. The bathroom door wouldn’t lock and looked like someone had punched a couple holes through it. There was no refrigerator, and the microwave was missing its revolving plate. Outside there was debris, and the windows were so dirty you could hardly see into the room. Priceline.com knew about these conditions but said they couldn’t refund us. Because of this, we’ll never use Priceline.com again. I can’t recommend this Econo Lodge location, and that’s why we’re giving it one star.
