Quality Inn

The room heat didn’t work and blew cold air, which was especially bad with the cold weather outside. Breakfast wasn’t much of a breakfast either: no meat or juice, and the pancake mix ran out after about three people used it. The morning front desk woman was hostile, while the evening woman was very nice. I picked this newer hotel because it was close to New Haven, CT. It used to be a Super 8 Motel, then was renovated and became a Quality Inn. The place is very noisy and there’s no rest here. There are no microwaves in the rooms, so you have to leave your room to heat anything. Second-floor rooms have more space and less noise. It could have potential, but based on previous reviews describing the same issues, they don’t seem to care enough to make improvements. At this point it seems like the lowest rated hotel in the area.

I can’t say anything about the rooms or cleanliness because they wouldn’t give me a key. I only needed a room for the day. The reservation desk said there were no day rates, so I’d need to rent the night before and the night after. I did that and told them I wouldn’t arrive until 8or9am the next day to check in. They called the front desk and confirmed that would be okay. When I arrived, a rude front desk woman shut me down right away, saying I’d missed check-in and was too early for early check-in. I had paid for the previous night, so this wasn’t early check-in. She only checked the computer after I insisted it had all been set up a couple of days earlier. Still short with me, she then said I’d have to return at 10 or 11 after I asked her to call the manager. I went to my car and called the reservation desk, since apparently giving me a key was too much to ask. They said everything looked right on their end, but because the front desk clerk wasn’t being helpful to them either, all they could do was find me a room at another hotel. I only had a few hours to rest, and the poor communication and lack of professionalism cost me at least two of them.

It’s freshly remodeled and fairly priced. The front desk could really use customer service skills; they come across as rude and seem mostly bothered by people they judge as lower income or class. Hope this was helpful.

Getting to the airport and I95 was convenient, but the rooms are subpar at best. I didn’t let housekeeping in while I was out because I didn’t want anyone in the room. I overheard an argument between an employee and a customer, and the employee didn’t sound professional. It could’ve been handled better than saying, “do whatever you want,” before going back behind the desk. It also took more than 10 minutes for the front desk to print my receipt. Breakfast was included, but the choices were limited to orange juice, coffee, apple juice, waffles, chocolate muffins, yogurt, and basic Cornflakes and Rice crispy cereal. There’s room for improvement across the board, and I probably won’t return.
