Hilton Garden Inn West Lafayette Wabash Landing

The room was actually kind of nice, but I won't book here again. I'd called ahead and was told the restaurant and bar would be open from 5 to 10 pm. I arrived around 9, checked in, then found out the bartender hadn't shown up and the bar was closed. The staff were rude when they explained it, so I had to walk around in the cold looking for somewhere still open to eat. Parking was a hassle too. You have to use a fairly nearby garage and get your parking validated at the front desk.

The reason people stay here is that it's within walking distance of campus. The rooms are okay, but the windows were covered in bird poop. Parking is inconvenient, especially with the elevators out of order. I nearly forgot, skip the breakfast. The eggs tasted fake, and the woman watched TV at the bar while making people come to her to get a plate. The worst part was coming back after being out all day to find my room door open because housekeeping hadn't pulled it shut. I told the front desk, and all I got was, “I’ll put it in the notes.” My things were left exposed all day, and they didn't even apologize.

The amenities were okay, but the staff were among the worst I've dealt with at a hotel. Their answers to questions sounded robotic, and when I asked the breakfast staff several things, every response was, “I don’t know, you have to ask the counter.” It made me wonder why they were standing there doing nothing. If AI takes over those jobs one day, they may complain to the government and blame big companies for not hiring or looking after them. They should take their work seriously now.

Hilton confirmed my reservation for a handicap room with an ADA-accessible bathroom, which mattered for safety because I was traveling with someone who uses a wheelchair and has limited mobility. But when we arrived, the property had no handicap room available. This place doesn't honor reservations made through Hilton's reservation system.
