Fireside Inn & Suites West Lebanon

The rooms are clean and functional, but they felt dated for the higher rates and could use an update to meet modern hotel standards. The location is the big draw: a quick drive gets you to Dartmouth College and its Ivy League sports venues, which is especially convenient for a sports weekend. We liked the classic New England feel, and the actual fireplace makes the lobby warm and welcoming. The staff are friendly, too. If easy access to Dartmouth athletics matters more than having a modern room, this is a great choice. Just keep the room condition and price in mind.

After staying here about one night a week for several months, I'm done coming back. This is the second time a noisy neighbor has ruined my stay, and I'm not sure whether the walls are just too thin or poorly soundproofed. All night I could hear low TV dialogue, bursts of shouting and screaming, occasional horns, and persistent clicking and tapping that sounded a bit like a video game. I could hear it whenever my room fan wasn't on. Around 4 a.m. I gave up trying to sleep and called the desk. Ten minutes later, the staff member made a weak attempt to call the room. It rang three times, and I could hear it through the wall. I waited a few minutes, but the TV was still on, so I called again. They basically said there was nothing they could do. I asked them to try once more. They let it ring longer, but still got no answer. Knocking on the wall did nothing either. I called back, desperate to get a couple more hours of sleep, and said they might lose me as a customer since there are plenty of other places around. That turned into an argument. When I asked them to listen to a guest and knock on the door, in case the person was passed out, overdosing, or having a medical emergency, the desk person asked what I expected them to do. Then they said that if there were lots of other options, I should leave because there were lots of other customers. It became a shouting match. They swore at me, accused me of harassing the desk, and blamed me for waiting until 4 a.m. to call. In the end, the neighbor must have heard the call, woke up, and shut off the TV. I've never been treated this badly at a hotel.

The location was really convenient and the service was OK, though it was hard to get anyone to smile. The room was big enough, and the bedding itself was really nice, but the bed was super uncomfortable, like sleeping in a hole. Breakfast was absolutely disgusting. If a nice breakfast matters to you in the morning, this isn't the hotel for you.
