Shaker Mill Inn

Our Airbnb had frozen pipe problems, so we needed somewhere at the last minute. We travel with a Newfoundland, and finding hotels that take large dogs can be tricky. About an hour after booking, we arrived to a ready room with snacks, fresh fruit, and even treats for our pup. The room was clean and nicely decorated, and the little gas fireplace in the door was cute and fun. Adding a third night after I'd booked two was easy. The staff are friendly and relaxed, and staying here felt like visiting friends we hadn't seen in a while. We'd return without hesitation.

Megan was super helpful and friendly, and the breakfasts were different each day, a bit like a B&B. Everything was in the room fridge, along with a microwave and toaster oven. We had pastries, cereal, yogurt, and quiche one day. The building is thoroughly modern inside, while its exterior resembles the Shaker Mill building down the road. It's a great home base for seeing the Berkshires. We could head north to Mt. Greylock or south to Bash-Bish Falls, the Edith Wharton estate, Norman Rockwell, and other places. We liked it enough to extend our stay to three days. There are no elevators, so ask Megan about a ground-floor room if stairs are a problem. We were on the second floor and had no trouble.

I've stayed here twice and highly recommend it. The place is cozy and comfortable, and the innkeepers are great about service and communication. There's a grocery store, coffee shop, and bookstore within walking distance, with restaurants nearby too. I recommend 51 Park in Lee, about a 12-minute drive away.

We stopped here for one night on the way back from vacation, and I wish we'd stayed longer. It's a great spot for exploring the Berkshires. The room was spectacular, with so many thoughtful details that it felt like sinking into a pillow of care. Breakfast in the room was a feast with lots of choices. If you're traveling with a pet, they've thought of helpful touches, right down to a leash hook by the door. The grounds felt relaxing and restorative after hiking, wandering, or driving. They graciously provide everything you might think to want. This is going on our list of places to return to, and I'm already looking forward to it.
