A serious improvement would be the breakfast. The “continental-light” selection wasn’t appealing: just packaged, heavily processed cold cereal, lots of sugary options including the oatmeal, and the same commercial muffins every day. For a historic property that’s still being improved, it would be nice to have unsweetened choices like yogurt and oatmeal, whole wheat or grain bread, and hard-boiled eggs. Dave's Coffee is under a five-minute drive down Rt 1, and can fill the gap. We spent four nights over New Year’s and had a relaxing little getaway thanks to the staff, who were attentive and caring throughout. Our cottage room was spacious, comfortable, and nicely equipped with a king bed, gas fireplace, and mini-fridge. The complimentary bathrobes are great for lounging, and a small portable heater is available for the bathroom in colder weather. Bottled water was always available by reception, and there was a wood fire going in the dining room’s stone fireplace during our stay. On New Year’s Eve we enjoyed the outdoor fire pits before and after a simple, tasty dinner. The neighborhood on and off Wagner Road, established in 1911, was safe, extensive, and easy to explore on foot, with varied, interesting architecture. Check out the street names, too.
